Life is cake...

Usually I'm not too big a fan of forwards, but every once in a while I come across a really good one (usually from my mom or mom-in-law)! This one was sent to me by my mother-in-law and I just keep thinking about it. I wanted to put it on our blog so I don't forget it. (It was originally called "God's Cake" and I changed a few things to apply it more personally.)

"Sometimes we wonder, 'why are things so difficult?' or 'why/how long do I have to struggle with this particular trial?' Here is a wonderful explanation!

A daughter is telling her Mother how everything is going wrong: she feels inadequate as a mother to her young children and wife to her sweet husband; she can't seem to stretch their income; and she doesn't feel like she connects very well with her friends.

Meanwhile, her Mother is baking a cake and asks her daughter if she would like a piece. 'Absolutely, Mom! I love your cake!'
'Here, have some cooking oil,' her Mother offers.
'Yuck' says her daughter.
'How about a couple raw eggs?'
'Gross, Mom!'
'Would you like some flour then? Or maybe some baking soda?'
'Mom, those are all yucky!'

To which the Mother replies, 'Yes, all those things seem bad all by themselves, but when they are put together in the right way, and in the right time, they make a wonderful cake!'

Our Heavenly Father works the same way. Many times we wonder why He would let us go through such bad and difficult times. He know that when we go through these thing all in His order, they always work for good! We just have to trust Him and, eventually, they will make something wonderful!!"

  1. Thank you for the reminder Kim. And while I don't look for or ask My Heavenly father for trials. I have come to known it is through them that I recieve the most growth and that He is ALWAYS there.

  3. I'm so glad you posted this. I love it! I swear less than an hour ago I was asking Jason why he thought I had to deal with one particular challenge. This is a great way of thinking about it. Thank you!
